PERKIMPertubuhan Kebajikan Malaysia, populary known as in Malaysia celebrated its 50th anniversary on 6 November 2010 at the Federal Mosque in Kuala Lumpur. PERKIM was founded by Malaysian first , Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al Haj in 1960 with the aim to promote Islam and provide help to the needy . One of its main functions is to conduct da’wah work among non- in Malaysia.

The opening ceremony of this grand event was officiated by Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak but due to his illness, he was represented by Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Minister at Prime Minister Office.

Presence at the function were Tun Dr , President of PERKIM, his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr , Secretary General, Tan Sri Dr Abdul , Chief Minister of Sarawak, guests, members, staff and volunteers of PERKIM. Tan Sri Dr Abdul , former President of PERKIM and the current President of took this special opportunity to present a replica of check amount of RM200,000 to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as a token from the Government of Sarawak

During the event, there was a presentation of special souvenirs to honour personalities who have dedicated and committed their works to the organization among them were the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al Haj, the founder and former president, Tan Sri Datuk Paduka Saleha Mohd Ali, former Women Wing of PERKIM and Tan Sri Dr Abdul Taib Mahmud, former President of PERKIM. However, several of its founding fathers had passed away, the awards were therefore received by their representatives.

In the evening an official dinner was held at the same venue which was attended by Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the guest of honour. He also presided over the official launching ceremony of the book compiling speeches of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Since its inception in 1960, PERKIM becomes a leading Islamic organization in the country in conducting da’wah activities, community services and welfare for Muslims and in rural areas. It has mobile clinic to provide free of charge medical services to the poor regardless of their race and religion particularly for community in far-flung areas.

PERKIM has a close cooperation with Islamic Religious Department of each state in Malaysia and with other welfare and Islamic organizations. It also has a branch in each state in the country. Its weekend Islamic class has attracted several students including the converts.
