ABIM Elects New President
A RISEAP member organization in Malaysia, Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) elected its new President and executive committee members for the year 2011-2013, comprising of bright, young and gifted personalities who are ready to face with current challenges. A new 18-executive committee member is led by Br Amidi Abdul Manan who is elected as the new president of ABIM, while Br Mohd Naim Mohd Noor as the deputy president. However, the secretary general, who is considered as one of a key position of ABIM went to Br Mohamad Raimi Abdul Rahim. Five female are also included in this line up, holding various porfolios in the organization namely Sis Fadhlina Sidek as Vice President of Women Affairs, Sis P Aizan Tukirin is in charge of Finance, Sis Maria Kamel as Head of Social Development Bureau while Sis Nor Azura Kamarudin Sohami and Sis Latifah Ismail are in charge of Education and Social development respectively.
ABIM, formed in 1971 and was officially registered in 1972 is one of the most active and outspoken Islamic youth movement in Malaysia particularly during 1970s. ABIM’s main activities is to provide Islamic education and fraternity among youth and also active in social and humanitarian works.
Br Amidi Manan is the eighth president of ABIM to replace Br Muhamad Razak Idris whose tenure expired last year. The first President of ABIM was Prof Dr Razali Nawawi.
RISEAP has six member organizations in Malaysia namely ABIM, Muslim Welfare Organization of Malaysia (PERKIM), Harakah Islamiah (HIKMAH), National Association of Muslim Students of Malaysia (PKPIM), United Sabah Islamic Association (USIA), and Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association (MACMA).
