RISEAP’S President Meets Fiji’s Prime Minister
SUVA, FIJI 10th October 2011 – The Chief Minister of Sarawak, Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud cum President of RISEAP, made a courtesy call to the Prime Minister of Fiji, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama at Government Buildings yesterday.
Pehin Sri who is in the county to attend meetings in his capacity as the president of the Regional Islamic Dawah Council of South East Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP) congratulated the Prime Minister Fiji’s 41st Independence anniversary. He commended the Prime Minister for his leadership of the Fijian Government in trying to bring the diverse races in Fiji together. “It is very unique and I wish to show my appreciation from the Muslim community for a common identity.” Pehin commented.
“I believe that we (Fiji and Malaysia) can continue to work together in terms of land management and we are always ready to help in terms of sending over some of our experts to come here for a certain number of months and train locals here,” Pehin Sri said. “This will be very beneficial to Fiji because I believe that Fiji has the potential to grow.” Haji Mahmud also offered Fiji assistance in the area of land management, especially for indigenous and others.
During the one day visit to Fiji, Pehin Sri visited schools that are owned and managed FIJI MUSLIM LEAGUE (FML). In the evening, Hafiz Dean Khan, the President of FML and his committee gave Pehin and his entourage a welcoming dinner at Intercontinental Hotel, Nadi. FML has established exemplary rapport with RISEAP for decades. RISEAP convened its EXCO meeting in Fiji 2009. Fiji is a member of RISEAP since its formation.
FML is active in providing education to the Muslims in Fiji including those from Papua New Guinea, Solomon Island, Samoa and other island nations.
