Ramadhan Month is over, Syawal month is here..
It is a well known fact that Malaysian people celebrate Hari Raya differently compared to other countries that celebrates this festivity. Aidilfitri is celebrated for the whole month of Syawal here in Malaysia but only the first two days is observed as public holidays.

The time has passed so fast and here we are again, at the end of Ramadhan and near the beginning of Syawal. The fasting month, a month of contemplation, redemption and full of holiness will soon come to an end. To all our friends, colleagues and acquaintances, to bloggers and lovely readers, twitters and facebookers, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

IIUM New Female Rector
Prof Datuk Dr Zaleha Kamaruddin has been appointed as a new Rector of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) on 10 August 2011, to replace Prof Dato’ Sri Dr Syed Arabi Idid, whose term as rector expired on June 1, he held the post since 2006. Prof Dr Zaleha is the first woman ever appointed to top post at IIUM.
Prior to this appointment, she served IIUM as a lecturer of law and later on was appointed as dean of Ahamad Ibrahim Kulliyah of Law. Moreh Feast
Perhaps, you have never heard of ‘Moreh Feast’. ‘Moreh Feast’ is used by Malay people casually within west peninsular of Malaysia. ‘Moreh Feast’ is associated with Ramadhan month. This is a traditional Malay culture practiced in the community ever since a long time ago. Our understanding ‘Moreh feast’ is that it is a form of ‘supper’ held either during the breaking of fast (Iftar) or after Tarawih prayer and Witr prayer. Thai Muslims Launch TV Station
The first ever Muslim television station was launched in Bangkok, Thailand on 23 July 2011 with the aim to provide reliable information on Islam and Muslim news in Thailand. The 24-hour transmission is broadcasted through NSS6 Satellite system, covering all countries in the Southeast Asian region and will soon link with some other satellites to widen its worldwide coverage.

Malaysian Qari, Qari’ah Won the First Prize
Representatives from Malaysia, Br Amirahman Abas and Sis Suraya Abu Hasan both won the Qari and Qari’ah categories in the 53rd international Qur’an Recital Competition which was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 16-23 July 2011.
The second and third prize winners for the Qari category went to Br Saudi M. Gandisa from Philippines and Br Abdel Bast Mohamed from Egypt. While the fourth and fifth place went to Br Hamidreza Abbasi from Iran and Br Awang Ismail Sulaiman from Brunei respectively.

Islamic Course Closing Ceremony, IIUM
RISEAP is taking a serious step to provide a systematic and formal Islamic education to minority Muslims who are in need of education in order to spread Islam more effectively in their community. The Islamic Course, a part of RISEAP Initiatives, is a rare course that is ever conducted by Islamic organizations in the region.
RISEAP has been conducting a series of this international Islamic course since the year 2000 in order to impart Islamic knowledge to these minority Muslims particularly new converts.
